Controllers
Why do I have a whole section on video game controllers?
What could possibly be so fascinating that I spent HOURS of my days looking at different controller designs and deciding what is the best fit for me?
You know, part of me didn't want to document this because if you're anything like me, you're obsessed with choosing the BEST option when researching something, that your research goes on for way too long that something "better" comes along and now you're comparing that new thing with this previous thing that was considered the best and now you can't decide so you just turn off your computer and never buy anything.
Probably the best option for your wallet if you're broke, but if you have the money and want to make the time to chase a hobby, this is a TERRIBLE feeling.
So let's talk controllers! This isn't going to be an extensive history on them or anything like that, moreso a documentation of my experience with them, my appreciation for them, and how my preferences changed as I tried different things out.
The First Great Controller
Let'a talk about the Super Nintendo/Super Famicon (SNES) controller. This is arguably the first really amazing controller. The rounded design so it fits better in the hand, the perfect placement of the buttons, the directional pad that would set the standard for all controllers going forward. This is a masterpiece of human engineering! This controller is so good, that Playstaion straight up copied it for their first console.
What I find particularly fascinating about this controller is the fanbase it has cultivated, is widely beloved by both retro and modern gamers, and thanks to companies like 8bitdo and their Pro 2 controller, it has revitalized the modding community for it. Sites like
